Engineering TV

Episode 3 - Futuristic Concept Cars

When Stanley Kubrick took Arthur C. Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey and transformed it into a four time Academy Award winning movie he was thinking of human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence and extraterrestrial life. Ford Motor Company was thinking of Stanley Kubrick's vision when they unveiled the futuristic concept, "Airstream". J Mays, Group VP of Design and Chief Creative Officer shows us the pod chairs and lava lamps, really.

Also, we'll cover the Lincoln Concept flex fuel capable auto offering with Dan Kapp, the Director of Power Train Research and Advanced Engineering at Ford Motor Company.

Hi Tom. National Instrument and Analog Devices have sponsored the entire year of ETV programming so you will indeed see them as the co-exclusive sponsors. We'll do our best to keep the advertising fresh, but keep in mind that they are the two companies that are making this possible for all of us! Totally your perrogative whether to watch ETV or not, but hopefully the content of ETV will be worth your while and you'll continue to tune in. Cheers!

Best of three so far, simply because Mays talked a little about the engineering process.  Dan was more of a product salesman, but did talk a little about technology evolution.

I hope the future of E-TV will provide more "how-to" engineering and less commercial demo.

I think E-TV is trying to ask the right questions to engage in an engineering discussion, but the interviewees are not engineers.  You are not getting the voice of the engineer.

I recently taught a beginning engineering class at the local university where the students really enjoyed programming the Lego robots and they learned more than I expected. I also really appreciate using labview to help design the electronic control systems for appliances at work.

Interviewer tried to direct the conversation towards engineering and design concerns, getting warmer....
