Episode 10 - Laser Safety and Radar Guided Cars

Based on a Closing Velocity (CV) micro-optical laser sensor, the pre-crash sensing system for early accident detection from Continental Automotive can dynamically determine the distance to an emerging obstacle as well as calculate the differential velocity with which the vehicle and obstacle are approaching each other. The adaptive cruise control system works on the basis of radar (77 GHz radar according to the pulse modulated Doppler principle for independent measurement of speed and distance) or infrared signals.

Finally. Primary application is highway driving in fog, smoke or generally at night when headlights are insufficient. Large trucks would need it most, but any vehicle has potential.
