An Anthropomorphic Hand

A new robotic hand developed by the German Aerospace Institute and the Harbin Institute of Technology uses servo-actuators which are completely integrated into the hand allowing the four fingers, each with three degrees of freedom, to grip with torque and tactile sensors imitating human motor functions.

It's a great development; I can see it leading soon to "waldoes" as Heinlein envisioned them.

To help get children more interested in engineering as an exciting career, I think it would be great to show the hand in some actual operations.

This explanation was just fine for a tech person already knowledgeable about force, torque, degrees-of-freedom, feedback etc.  If we want to attract and grow a new generation of engineers we need to have demo's as well as lectures.

Maybe that's outside the charter of EngineeringTV?

    Regards,

    Frank
