Toyota A-BAT

The A-BAT, a truck-car hybrid concept vehicle will have a 4-cylinder gas engine that works with Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive, a powertrain that enables the car to run on both electricity and gas. CALTY Creative Designers Daryl Harris and Matt Sperling discuss some of the design decisions that went into the Toyota A-BAT concept.

A-BAT looks great, wonderful idea for people who don't need full size pickup but who do need weekend utility vehicle to haul stuff for home and yard work. Fuel efficiency is another HUGE point in its favor. If they make this, we'll buy one.

Does it allow driving with the electric motor only and can the batteries be charged from your home AC power?  If so what is the range on electric only?

What is the MPG with gas and electric?

Toyota did not steal the midgate from the avalanche.  Is there a patent on the tailgate?  If so, a whole bunch of car makers are guilty.

This fits my suburban lifestyle and needs, and harkens back to my Toyota compact p/u.   I'll get one if they go into production.

This is the truck that Toyota needs to offer, back to there roots, like the old Toy trucks, I have been looking for this truck from them, and would buy one for sure.

I am not buying a pickup right now in the hopes that this will come into production in the near future. It looks like a space truck! I will but one as soon as it becomes available.

I would definitely buy one.  I'm not crazy about the styling, but the utility looks great.  I'm glad SOMEBODY is looking at bringing back the true compact truck.  Being able to reconfigure a small truck to carry car seats one day and plywood the next is just great and long overdue.

THIS is what I've been waiting for - good economy, extra cab room, and an adaptable bed that would be good for camping and hauling.  I'd don't like the low profile tires and prefer wheels/tires capable of rough roads which a lot of us have to travel.  I'd like to see it more round like the Tacoma and less angular, but that may just be function of the neo-flash need.
