Som Mitra, Ph.D., professor of chemistry and environmental science at New Jersey Institute of Technology, is experimenting with polymers that when dissolved in a solvent become like a paint, and thus can be used as a coating. Solar cells can be inexpensively printed or simply painted on exterior building walls or roofs. They could be an inexpensive source of power for appliances, heating and cooling units, laptops, etc.
