Promethean Solar Refrigerator

Promethean Power Systems is developing a solar-powered refrigeration system for commercial cold-storage applications in off-grid and partially electrified areas of developing countries. The system uses clean, quiet, solid-state technologies such as thermoelectric cooling modules and solar photovoltaic (PV) panels. Their revolutionary refrigeration technology will enable food suppliers to store and preserve perishable food items—such as milk, fruits and vegetables—without the need for expensive diesel-powered generators. Also watch this episode: Third World Cold-Storage System. For more information, go to: Promethean Power Systems.

The idea to have refrigeration in an area where there is no access to electricity is a great idea, however I would exchange the solar panel with a small wind turbine.

You probably will get more energy with lower overall cost.

It is great to have a refrigeration system where there is no electricity, especially for an area like ours where there is lot of heat energy in Pakistan.

It's great! With any technology, one has to ask, how large would the collector be to run a typical sized freezer/refrigerator?

It is very good system to have refrigeration without electricity and is very usefull in India if it is practical and viable. If you can send me costwise more details of different models I can help you to market the product in India.

This is not really solar, this is an electrical refrigerator, of course is a great idea though, is not really solar.  The solar refrigeration is due to absortion on the heater.
