Milner Continuously Variable Transmission

The Milner Continuously Variable Transmission has a compact, in-line form factor and flexible configuration which makes it ideal for applications where space is at a premium and/or unnecessary weight results in additional cost (battery power, fuel efficiency, etc.). At the heart of the Milner CVT lies a rolling traction variator that is capable of efficiently handling both high torque and high speeds. It is essentially a variable geometry, four-point contact ball bearing with power transfer to or from the planet balls by roller followers located between the balls and mounted on a rotating carrier. The MCVT allows for unprecedented power density (as a function of both size and mass) among traction CVT’s, and provides significant benefits over existing belt driven CVT’s.
